Manager, Mobile Devices

Handsets are the core vehicle to deliver VMU's branded experience to the customer, and in turn, the accessories are a key driver that augments the handsets. In other words—no handsets/accessories, means no Virgin Mobile! This position sits on the front lines of projecting the VMU brand both with our supplier partners and our customers as VMU strives to deliver a compelling experience on the mobile device front. A ton of external relationship management with both handset and accessory vendors is at the heart of the job. You will also have the ability to create special edition handsets and accessories for specific marketing programs.

The Mobile Devices manager will team to define the handset roadmap, work with handset OEM's, and communicate market trends within the organization. You are responsible for the overall direction of the VMU accessory program, including complete ownership of the indirect program at retail and responsibility for working with the sales and marketing teams in ensuring the direct channel is equipped with all the right accessories in support of the handset lineup.

• Key in this position is exceptional interpersonal skills, as the success of this position is largely determined by the ability to work closely with others and gain their buy-in with often difficult requests. Additionally, you must be able to raise flags and clearly articulate any gaps.

Requirements
• Come with 5+ years of experience in the wireless industry with an understanding of products and channel distribution with special emphasis on handsets and accessories. You’ll need a broad understanding of handset technologies, feature-set trade-offs, and be able to synthesize roadmap information for internal/external entities.
• You will have the ability to wear a ‘buyers’ hat, and be attentive to the details. You should also have project management experience. A technical background can only help here as well!
• You must be highly energized, and enjoy engaging others. Independent thinkers who can reach his/her own conclusions in a quick and reasoned manner is really what’s needed here. You should be able to deftly drive decision making to ensure that products and projects move forward in a simple yet business savvy way.

The SE often leads cross functional efforts of sales, engineering, operations and care to address customer issues and support customer needs. The SE will also help coordinate the consulting services of Systems Integrators with enterprise customer.

EDUCATION:
• BSEE or BSCSE preferred. MIS, MSEE, or MBA desired.

EXPERIENCE:

Proven hands on experience and expertise within one of the following general areas focus:

• Strong Java experience with a working knowledge of at least two out of C++, C#, Ruby, Python, PHP, Perl, or other widely used development language.
• Broad development experience with automated testing and Build focus is desirable.
• Experience building applications with an emphasis on performance, scalability, high-reliability and maintainability.
• Development experience with common delivery protocols including HTTP, SMPP, and TCP/IP and with mobile technologies including WAP and SMS (binary & text) is desirable. MMS experience would be a plus.
• Experience in full life-cycle software development.

Wireless System Engineer

Job Duties/Responsibilities:
As a successful System Engineer you will participate in the deployment of innovating wireless systems, focusing especially on managing and evaluating performance of the integration of RF technology in customer and field activities. Company expanding in Europe and esp. in all of S.E. Asia and E. Asia (China, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, etc.).

Your typical responsibilities will entail key system level activities in the deployment of state-of-the art communication systems:
• MOST important is all around good wireless and mobile telecom engineering experience!
• Working with customers to develop system integration plans, with test suites for performance evaluation
• Execution of the system test plans, and evaluation of the results
• Development of product improvement requirements, helping OEM partner engineers debug, design, and test Commercial acceptance test plan completion.

Desired Qualifications:
• Again, MOST important is all around good wireless and mobile telecom engineering experience!
• Thorough knowledge of RF system fundamentals:
• Digital radio transceiver concepts and performance metrics
• At least five years experience with wireless data system deployment and management, including familiarity with all of the major air interfaces: CDMA, GSM, UMTS, WiMax, etc.
• An ability to troubleshoot wireless systems and control software, as well as in- depth familiarity with test, measurement, and analysis techniques
• Communication skills for working directly with customers at a variety of management levels and technical backgrounds. The candidate should be organized and clear in communicating plans, requirements, results and information, both internal and external.
• Familiarity with circuit and system-level RF design up to 3 GHz, including synthesizers, amplifiers, mixers, filters, and surface mount design.
• Previous matlab, c/c++, perl, and unix or linux experience
• Knowledge of digital electronics, DSP, and an advanced degree are all pluses.
• A BSEE is required, and MSEE preferred.
