Position Summary

Working for the development manager the role consists of developing and maintaining DigitalRum’s (DR) mobile client applications for both Symbian and J2ME devices. DR develops mobile services which are deployed to end users mobile phones through all mobile technologies ranging from SMS only applications through to integrated installable clients. The developer will be required to take ownership of the current mobile applications and work to continue their evolution in accordance with the agreed roadmap.

Responsibilities

  • Working with the project managers to produce and maintain application specifications – including both the user flow/experience and any required technical interfaces
  • The development of DR Symbian Series 60 based applications in accordance with specifications
  • The development of DR J2ME based applications in accordance with specifications
  • Integrating applications with the DR the mobile service platform
  • Work with DR’s testing processes to ensure that we deliver end to end tested solutions
  • Working with DR’s operation team to complete the installation and acceptance of the service
  • Code ownership and maintenance according to agreed processes
  • Rapid prototyping skills to develop concept applications when required

Requirements

  • Providing pre-sales support for the sales team and attending sales presentations
  • Being part of the account team for our large clients, providing technical support
  • Provide input to the product management team to assist with the evolution of DR mobile products

Skills

At least 3 years commercial hands-on experience in a development role delivering end to end solutions. A University degree is highly desirable. A pro-active, service-oriented mentality with good time and task management with high attention to detail and ability to communicate with both technical and non-technical staff. Ability to adapt to rapidly changing priorities and requirements.

  • Proven ability to develop and deliver mobile applications
  • Symbian OS C++ programming
  • Series 60 (S60) version 2.x and 3.x end to end application development (UI and Core)
  • Experience working with Carbide IDE would be an advantage
  • UIQ development would be an advantage
  • J2ME application development experience based on MIDP 2.0
  • Ability to exchange between J2ME and Symbian programming
  • Experience of deploying J2ME applications on many handsets
  • Experience of IM applications and protocols would be an advantage
  • An understanding of mobile network infrastructure

Experience of most of these areas is desirable but not a prerequisite. However, it is expected that the successful applicant will have a good knowledge of most of them.
