SONY BMG Music Entertainment is a global recorded music joint venture with a roster of current artists that includes a broad array of both local artists and international superstars, as well as a vast catalog that comprises some of the most important recordings in history. The New Technology Division is responsible for approving new media and technology, partners, formats, and security methods for distribution of digital content on CD/DVD’s, over the Internet, and mobile networks. We are seeking a director, focusing on content protection, to join the New Technology Group at Sony BMG Music Entertainment. The candidate will work to provide research, security reviews, and recommendation on new technologies, digital rights management and digital distribution channels for the Global Digital Business Division of Sony BMG Music Entertainment.
The successful candidate will be versed in a variety of emerging technologies in media and entertainment and will be responsible for analyzing market trends and new technologies to explore and evaluate their implications for opportunities in the digital distribution of audio, video and game products and services.
Specific responsibilities will include:
–Identifying emerging technologies and trends that will contribute to the ongoing enhancement of the company’s digital distribution business
–Participating in industry working groups (internal and external) that develop industry standards (file formats, metadata/indexing, compression, security, etc.)
–Providing technical consultation to internal business units
–Working closely with VP/SVP’s of technology, business development, and corporate counsel
The following areas of technology proficiency are required:
–Digital Rights Management (DRM) technologies and standards on various platforms including PCs (e.g. Wintel, Apple, Open Source), Consumer Electronics Devices and Mobile Devices
–Working knowledge of multimedia file formats and compression including Windows Media (WMA), QuickTime (AAC), MPEG Layer-3 (MP3), WAV, AIFF, etc.
–A working understanding of networking architectures and high-speed data transmission
–A working knowledge of Windows, Macintosh, and UNIX operating systems, PDA/Mobile: Symbian, Windows Mobile, Palm OS
–Hands-on knowledge of Macromedia (Director, Flash, Dreamweaver), Java, HTML, and XML programming languages is of advantage
General qualifications should include:
–5 years relevant experience, including experience in digital media, digital audio / video encoding, file compression, formatting standards, and/or web technologies
–3 years experience in project management
–Undergraduate degree in Computer or Information Science is required
–A related post-graduate degree is preferred
–Excellent time management and organizational skills
–Exceptional communication skills (both verbal and written)
–The ability to work effectively in a team environment with a variety of corporate professionals and business partners
–The ability to represent the company in industry meetings and standards forums.
