Position Summary
Our Handset Technology Architect/ Project Manager is responsible for managing and driving to completion major wireless handset development projects. Work closely with the handset team to continually improve Virgin Mobile’s technical project management competency.
The real meat is as follows:
Handset development project management – manage the execution of handset development projects by third party manufacturers in the development of cellular handsets customized to Virgin Mobile’s requirements. Develop and maintain task-level project schedules that track the scoping, requirements, design, implementation, test, and deployment phases of a project.
Interface with technical personnel of handset OEM vendors and of an affiliated wireless carrier. Serve as the single/primary technical point of communication for a project and, when necessary, escalate project status, issues, and risks out of the project team to management and other project stakeholders.
Communicate OEM feedback regarding status and feasibility of technical issues to the internal teams. Support and collaborate with other internal groups from a handset development to its launching effort. Work proactively to resolve issues within project team where possible.
Track change requests and bugs for the projects assigned. Provide technical root cause analysis of bugs. Manages the implementation and verification of the network environment for new handsets. Facilitate change management decisions and adjust task-level project schedules accordingly. Identify and investigate project variances in an effort to continually improve project delivery capabilities.
Requirements
You’ll need 3+ years experience in wireless phone product development as an architect, project manager, program manager or product manager. Come with proven experience in leading complex projects to successful completion. You should have a strong technical background, and must be familiar with CDMA, 1xRTT, EV-DO voice and its data standards and data networking with TCP/IP. You’ll need to be schooled in handset architecture and implementations, and we require you have principal knowledge and/or working experience with technical disciplines such as Java/J2ME, SMS, MMS, LBS and WAP browser.
You should be driven by results, and not be afraid to jump in and pick up the slack to ensure that a project stays on track. Come armed with excellent documentation, analytical and communications skills; and a demonstrated problem solving ability. You should be undeterred by initial roadblocks, and proactively seeks alternative means for achieving goals and objectives.
