R&D Operations Project Mgr
Avaya’s Communications Appliances Division (CAD) has global business responsibility for all Avaya desktop appliances, wired desksets, wireless phones, soft phones as well as soft clients in the fixed-mobile-convergence area.
Through the strong expertise in VoIP technology as well as in communications applications Avaya has managed to have above-industry growth rates for the last few years. This has lead to requiring different methods of monitoring business performance.
The R&D Operations Project Manager’s responsibility is to proactively support and drive this transition process by establishing new procedures and standards for R&D processes to deliver the needed portfolio within existing budget boundaries as part of the Global CAD R&D Development Process team.
Detailed responsibilities:
1) Drive strategy and business plan creation and implementation within CAD R&D
a) Run the strategy activities for the development team
b) Drive and coordinate the yearly business planning for the R&D team
c) Ensure adherence to plan
2) Run the day to day operations of the R&D department
a) Ensure goal-oriented work style
b) Task and ToDo Item tracking.
c) Metrics and reporting
3) Improve development efficiency and effectiveness
a) Drive speed & efficiency in development programs
b) Establish and manage process feedback loops for continuous improvements
c) Ideation & introduction of new processes as well as process improvements
d) Establish a performance measurement system for individuals and entire development teams
4) Establish risk management and systematic mitigation
a) Establish and manage escalation processes to ensure timely decisions
b) Establish a systematic risk management associated with mitigation plans and actions
c) Support individual programs which are in jeopardy to get back on track
5) Strengthen high quality project management
a) Build project management skills and measure their use
b) Get realistic plans and proper execution feedback loops
6) Manage already ongoing improvement projects and initiatives
The role requires 5+ years of professional experience, ideally in strategy or consulting in a product development environment. Practical experience in project management, with resource and time planning and tracking are needed.
Strong analytical skills as well as strong interpersonal skills are needed (a) to understand existing areas of weaknesses and (b) to create momentum and buy-in for improvement actions by senior R&D management.
The role requires a sound academic education ideally with MBA.
