Creates and executes the strategy to launch NPR Music as a premiere online music discovery destination; builds on the principle of aggregating valuable music-related assets not only from NPR but also selected NPR stations around the United States and other trusted sources; plans and launches products for online and on-demand delivery; leads a team in developing, delivering, and constantly improving a music discovery service that is relevant in the lives of NPR listeners and new audiences.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience with at least 6-8 years experience in product management in the Internet industry, with emphasis on music/media/entertainment; strong general manager with innate leadership qualities; ability to perform well in a cross-functional environment; ability to work in a highly-matrix organization; strong understanding of the state of music/entertainment/media on the web, and knowledge of current industry trends; rock-solid background in full product management life cycle, with significant experience working with a variety of customers to define business needs, convert those needs into requirements that both clearly capture business functions and provide the level of detail technical developers will require; exposure and high level of understanding of Web-based technologies and online services/Internet industry/consumer software; experience developing and executing a successful promotion/marketing strategy to attract an audience to products/services, either online or offline; user/audience orientation; proven history of understanding “customer” needs and delivering results; strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects; demonstrated ability to imagine audacious projects and execute them on time and budget; excellent communication skills (oral, written, interpersonal); ability to communicate both “big-picture” and details; encyclopedic knowledge of all musical genres; several years’ professional experience in the music industry, particularly experience producing musical events and/or products, and/or in radio programming; experience maintaining high journalistic and production standards under deadline; experience negotiating contracts for creative contributors; experience with issues of intellectual property, especially issues of copyright and music rights; desirable experience with photo editing, video or audio production; knowledge of HTML; experience creating interactive applications or working with streaming media.
