Akamai is looking for a senior software engineer with systems programming background to develop streaming software and related media applications. The candidate will be a part of a highly skilled and motivated team that develops Akamai’s Media Delivery solution.
About the Job
The candidate must be a top C++ and Objective C programmer with experience in streaming technologies, TCP/IP networking, multithreading and server development. Development experience on Linux and Mac OS X operating systems are required. Knowledge of one or more of Silverlight, QuickTime or Flash streaming is preferred. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated problem solving abilities, good teamwork and communication skills. The candidate needs to be goal-oriented, have the ability to handle interruptions while fluidly switching between several projects and deal with issues that arise when running a highly available distributed service.
Responsibilities:
• Design and implement new features and applications for client and server audio/video applications, seeing development from conception and design through testing and deployment
• Stays abreast of new technologies and effectively applies previous experience when designing and developing new applications
• Involved with design reviews, systems testing and data modeling on complex projects
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications
• Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science
• 4 + years of experience in a high tech environment
• Production software experience with Java, Python, C++ and Objective C
• Systems experience with both Linux, Mac OS X and Windows based systems
Desired Qualifications:
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills
• Experience with mobile and embedded systems development a plus
• Experience with web technologies and development and deployment of web applications
• Experience with rich media/streaming technology
• Knowledge of Quality Assurance best practices
• Knowledge of Release Engineering best practices
• Knowledge of software development lifecycle
